Advanced Particle Physics Courses

6 students of Mandoulides Schools attended the Advanced Particle Physics courses - Masterclasses at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. These courses aim to analyze the fields and methods of basic research on elementary particles and the forces between them, the experiments carried out at CERN, the discovery of the Higgs boson and applications arising from that research. In the laboratory part of the course students handled real experimental data from the LHC accelerator at CERN, and looked between the particle tracks to "re-discover" particle Z, the carrier of the weak force, and the Higgs particle, discovered in 2012 in CERN. Students who participated were: S. Athanasiadis, C. Efthymiadis, A. Zyganitidou, G. Michelakakis, N. Mpoumis, C. Sgouridis.
