Elementary School Interdisciplinary Week
As part of the program “Learning without Books”, the students in Grades 1, 2, 3 and 4 experienced a unique interdisciplinary education for one just before Christmas holidays. More specifically:
- The students of 1st Grade took part in the first interdisciplinary project “Once upon a time ... Christmas is here”. They left their books and notebooks at home and transformed their classrooms into real workshops. Accompanied by their friends from well-known fairy tales, they worked together and gained a great deal of knowledge by playing, making and creating.
- The students of 2nd Grade participated in the interdisciplinary project “Riding along Christmas on a Sleigh”. There, they felt the magic and beauty of Christmas in an unprecedented and attractive way. Accompanied by Tela and Spangos, the two shrewd cats - masterminds of bookbinding, they transformed their classrooms into modern binderies. Thus, following all stages of traditional bookbinding, they made their own books, in which they wrote and illustrated a Christmas story.
- The students of 3rd Grade worked on the interdisciplinary project “Time is running ... Christmas is coming!”. They felt the Christmas spirit and experienced the magical atmosphere of the days for a while. They got to know the season’s customs and traditions of Greece and Europe, exchanged greetings via Skype with students from foreign schools and sang carols.
- Finally, the students of 4th Grade took part in the interdisciplinary project “Once upon a time ... Christmas is here” and experienced the Christmas atmosphere and the message of love that this holiday brings. They used their mathematical abilities to create unusual trees that they decorated the classrooms with through a Christmas-themed STREAM action. They also learned a lot about the leading figure of Christmas, their beloved Santa Claus.
Through a variety of imaginative and creative actions, tailored to the age of the students and perfectly aligned with the curriculum developed by each class, the students felt the unique magic and beauty of Christmas.
