FIRST LEGO League Award Ceremony

The presentation of awards to the FLL teams that qualified for the Greek Final of Robotic Research and Innovation “CITY Shaper”, which was canceled due to the pandemic, took place online on Thursday, 25 June, 2020.

Mandoulides Schools participated in the competition with 2 teams, A.T.O.M.S and Co - MANDERS, both of whom were successful as they qualified for the Greek Final.

The excellent effort of the students was rewarded in the best way, as the Minister of Education and Religious Affairs, Mrs. Niki Kerameos, presented them with the “Rise Award”, while Mrs. Sofia Zacharaki, Deputy Minister of Education and Religious Affairs, gave them the “Chairman” award, the top award of FIRST®️ in the World Festival.

The first Greek Olympic gold medalist, Mrs. Voula Patoulidou, also addressed the event, as the theme of the upcoming competition is sports. Actress Mrs. Zeta Douka, Ambassador of EDUCATION UNLIMITED, conveyed in her own special way the message that “Robotics is for Everyone” while Mr. Gregory W. Pfleger, Jr., Consul General of the United States in Thessaloniki, stressed the importance of the people around us, who contribute in their own decisive way to the achievement of our goals.

Moreover, the Seshan brothers from Pittsburgh, USA, world champions of the 2018 FIRST LEGO League, were also invited and they encouraged the teams to go on against all odds. Finally, a member of the National Robotics Team that represented us at FIRST Global, Eirini Tsatrafili, shared with us her experience from the competition.

Our teams attended the event at the Theater of the Cultural Center of the Schools together with the people who contributed in their own way to the participants’ important effort, that is their parents and their coaches.
