Microcosm- Germs and Us

In September and October our 1st grade students worked on a project called “Microcosm” within the framework of a program called “STREAM STEPS”.

Throughout the program, students learned many things about germs; such as what they are, how they multiply, and especially what we must all do to protect ourselves from them. Students also carried out their own experiments and documented their observations gradually coming to their conclusions.

As October 15th was Global Handwashing Day, students created their own song, which they can sing every time they wash their hands. Our music teacher G. Polymeneris’ help proved very valuable as he composed the music for the lyrics of the song. The children learned how to wash their hands properly by applying enough soap and water to wash away the germs from their little hands.

In addition, students made beautiful projects through which they will remember their journey with the germs and how to protect themselves from them. On the last day of the program, children received the germs exterminator award as a reward for their valuable help.
