Mandoulides Schools students in an online Panhellenic Student Conference

Seven 10th Grade Mandoulides Schools students took part in the Panhellenic Student Conference “Dialogue or clash of cultures? On the occasion of the 2,500-year-old landmark from the Battle of Thermopylae and the Battle of Salamis”. The conference was co-organized by the junior and senior High School of Athens College in conjunction with the “Marianna B. Vardinogiannis” under the auspices of the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs. It took place on Thursday 11 and Friday 12 February 2021 through the online platform Zoom.

The Conference was attended by students from 72 private and public schools
in Greece, Cyprus, Turkey, England and the USA. The students who presented their proposals were from 15 different senior high schools and 8 different junior high schools.

Among the speakers, the participating 10th Grade students of Mandoulides Schools had a prominent position: D. Karavasilis, K. Karagkitsi, G. Karapanagioti, O. Kerameos, A. Manakou, S. Papathanasiou and I. Passia who presented their project on the topic “The conceptualization and the construction of the Other through texts of Greek and Turkish authors.”The project was an attempt to find an understanding gaze of writers from both sides of the Aegean for the complex image of the Other, enemy or friend, through the use of a new tool of contemporary anthropological research, identities and heterogeneities.
