Microcosm - Germs and Us
In the framework of the STREAM STEPS program, our 1st grade students participated in the project entitled “Microcosm” during the months of September and October.
Throughout the program, they learned about germs and how we can protect ourselves from them. They, also, conducted their own experiments and documented their observations gradually, thus finally reaching their conclusions.
On the occasion of the Global Handwashing Day, on 15 October, they created their own song that they can sing every time they wash their hands. The contribution of our music teacher, Mr Giannis Polymeneris, proved really valuable, as he composed the music accompanying students’ lyrics. Students learned how to wash their hands effectively by applying enough water and soap to remove all germs from their little hands. In addition, they made crafts which will remind them of their journey with germs as well as how to protect themselves from them.
On the last day of the program, their efforts were rewarded as they received the germs exterminator award.
