Another coastal cleanup, the second in a series, was recently carried out, as part of the European Educational Program <\/span>SHORE<\/span><\/a>. This time, students from two different educational levels collaborated on the project.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

More specifically, on Monday, May 5 the 5th grade and 8th grade students met at Karabournaki, where they conducted a beach cleanup, with the assistance and guidance of educators from the Environmental Organization \u202f<\/span>iSea<\/span><\/a>.\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As before, the activity began with an on-site briefing by <\/span>iSea<\/span> on the common types\u00a0 of waste typically found on beaches and their impact on the quality of life and the health of marine organisms, as well as on humans. Students also received information on various waste management methods, such as landfills, biological treatment, and recycling.\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Afterwards, students were given gloves and trash collection bags and proceeded with the beach cleanup under the supervision and guidance of \u202fiSea\u2019s educators. At the end of the activity, the collected waste was weighed. A total of 56.5 kilograms of conventional waste was gathered.\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The students witnessed firsthand how litter spoils the aesthetic quality of the area- including the beach- despite the fact that it is still used today by some members of the public for swimming. They left the beach feeling satisfied, knowing that their efforts had significantly contributed to improving its condition.\u202f<\/span>
