Our experience at the Genius Olympiad was truly unforgettable, and we gained valuable knowledge and skills throughout the competition. We, Alexandros Diamantopoulos and Charalampos Kyriakidis, competed in the Science category with our project, “Purification of the School’s Wastewater,” which focused on water purification and recycling within the school environment. Our presentation was based on the filtration system we designed and developed with the support of our school. The Greek delegation consisted of nine students competing in different categories of the Olympiad. We formed strong friendships within our team, but we also had the opportunity to socialize with participants from many other countries. We met people from a wide range of cultures and learned about their projects by attending their presentations. We were impressed by the remarkable level of innovation and the extensive preparation behind many of the entries. The ideas presented by the students were both unique and inspiring, introducing us to approaches we had never encountered before. When some of these projects received awards, we truly realized the highly competitive nature of an international competition of this caliber.<\/p>\n
The organization of the competition was not overly structured, which gave participants both freedom and responsibility. Much of our experience depended on our own initiative, as the organizers expected us to take an active role. The judges walked around the exhibition area, observing the projects displayed at each booth. Whenever a project caught their attention – or when someone encouraged them to visit – it would then be evaluated. This meant that we needed to be proactive, engage with visitors, and always be prepared to present our project again. As a result, we developed greater flexibility and confidence, gradually overcoming our anxiety and becoming more comfortable with public speaking. At the same time, we listened to presentations from other participants and got to know the students at the neighboring booths. This experience will remain with us for a lifetime and has provided us with valuable skills and inspiration for our future. We are deeply grateful to our school, Ms. D. Kolovou, Mr. I.
