Mandoulides Schools are organiazing the International Student Competition Hackathlon with the participation of public and private Greek and international schools. The competition is open to students of 4th up until 9th Grade, it is carried out with permission from the Ministry of Education and is under the auspices and support of Microsoft.
Each student will have to “break” secret codes and navigate from level to level on our specially designed webpages. To achieve this, he/she has to solve mathematical and other kinds of puzzles, look for information, process diagrams, explore maps, and so on. In Hackathlon, therefore, students play by learning and learn by playing!
The puzzles are general knowledge and cover all subjects taught in each class. Special IT knowledge is not required, except for basic skills (navigation through websites, using search engines etc.).
The competition is international and to encourage the participation of schools from abroad, the language of the competition is English. Nevertheless, in all the questions there will also be a Greek translation which will automatically appear on the player’s screen.
1st Phase: February, 15 – 28
The students can play anytime, anywhere they wish. They have to navigate through 50 different levels within 1 hour and are allowed to perform up to three attempts. The attempt with the best performance is the one that will be the ticket to the final.
2nd Phase: Saturday, March 18
Students have to go to certified test centers and again navigate through 50 different levels within 1 hour.
From each class:
The 100 students who had the best performance in the 1st phase will compete.
The top three students with the highest performance will be awarded.
What will the winners win?
In addition to the three prizes that the first three students will share, Microsoft Hellas and the other partners – sponsors of the competition will offer generous gifts. You can obtain information about them from the competition website. The presentation of the awards to the winners will take place at a special ceremony to be held at Mandoulides Schools in June.
