Day Care Center - Kindergarten

Day Care Center - Kindergarten

The Day Care Center and Kindergarten lay the foundation for the sound development of the child. Students learn to discover themselves; they take initiative and develop skills, combining knowledge with creative play. Expert educators help the youngsters forge a balanced and well-rounded personality through the use of modern pedagogic methodologies, on a friendly, secure campus, full of joy and care, love, and creativity.

Students of the Day Care Center - Kindergarten:

Familiarize themselves with the Greek language, mathematics, new technologies, and foreign languages (English).

Express themselves creatively by engaging in various arts: children’s literature, music, theater, painting and the “live art gallery.”

Cultivate their spirit through educational excursions, cultural events, and entertaining activities; and exercise their bodies in daily physical education classes and in clubs.

Enjoy themselves and cultivate team spirit through various social activities and creative play.

Curriculum

Children of preschool age, in a suitable communication environment and through a comprehensive educational system, participate and learn while having fun. The games become the core of the program and the consolidation of language is reinforced in the teaching of all subjects. The program encourages interaction between children and helps them to work together to solve problems, to take initiative and responsibility, and to share experiences and feelings.

The IT field contributes to the educational process with computers, which constitute a teaching aid and an educational tool with a broad range of possibilities.

Kindergarten teaching takes place in a specially designed laboratory that uses selected educational software. The lessons are done exclusively in English so that students get familiarized with foreign languages.

Α’ –Δ’ Δημοτικού - Mission X: Train Like An Astronaut

The educational project “Mission X: Train Like an Astronaut is an international educational challenge, focusing on fitness and nutrition, that encourages students to train like an astronaut.

Overseen by ESERO-UK, the program is supported by the UK Space Agency as well as the European Space Agency and forms part of the program “Eating Healthily at Mandoulides Schools.”

The program is addressed to Kindergarten and all Elementary School students and takes place from March to the end of the school year. During the program, certain actions are conducted according to the children’s age maturity and background knowledge.

Developed in cooperation with space scientists and fitness professionals working directly with astronauts, NASA's “Train Like an Astronaut” activities are a physical and inquiry-based approach to human health and fitness on Earth and in space.

During the pioneering Mission X challenge, our students participate in physical activities modelled after the real-life physical requirements of humans travelling in space.

Thus, our students, depending on their grade, take part in the following actions:

  • What’s your space height (calculation of space weight and height)
  • Energy of an astronaut (compilation of natural food lists that can guarantee the energy an astronaut needs)
  • Reduced gravity, Low fat (distinguishing the harmful fat ingredients included in food products we consume every day)
  • Taste in space (drawing a diagram of the human tongue, demonstrating how different senses can affect our taste)

What is more, our students are involved in the following fitness activities:

  • Agility astro course
  • Base station walkback
  • Build an astronaut core
  • Explore and discover
  • Do a spacewalk
  • Climb a Martian mountain
  • Crew training
  • Jump for the moon

Through this adventurous journey to the amazing world of space, students are not only informed about fitness and healthy eating, but they are also enabled to become the next generation of fitness explorers.

Nature and Me

Love for Mother Nature and her unique creatures, as well as respect towards the environment, are cultivated from a young age, not only through literature, music, visual arts, but also through educational, experiential excursions.

The Bean and Chickpea

Fairies and kings, dragons and giants! Beloved heroes come to life through our imagination and lead us to the magical land of fairy tales. In this particular world we are also transported, by reading and performing dramatizations of stories, in order to discover an inexhaustible treasure of knowledge and creative thinking.

Learning to Live Healthily

Children’s keen interest to get to know their bodies is an appropriate trigger to learn, and to promote daily hygiene habits within the school, like brushing teeth. We learn to live healthily, by playing and creating.

Feelings in Words and Images

Even at this very tender age, we gradually begin to know ourselves. We learn who we are and, most importantly, we learn what we feel in every circumstance. We recognize these feelings and give them forms and names. We look for ways to push away what is troubling us and to express our love every day. We discover together all the things we have hidden in our souls as if they were valuable treasures. Books, games, activities, and painting are our invaluable assistants in this journey. Who can resist such a magical journey into the world of feelings?

Continents and Oceans

We begin our trip across all continents with our own passports. We get to know the world, different civilizations, and cultures of other nations. But we don't stop there! We set off to experience the magic of the oceans too. Starting from mythology, where Ocean was the son of Gaia and Uranus, and traveling around the world, we learn about the Pacific, the Indian, the Antarctic, and the Arctic Oceans. We also learn about the fish that live in them, the cetaceans, the crustaceans, as well as many plant species.

Personalities that Shaped our World

We get to know 10 different personalities, women and men, from different historical periods. We talk about musical geniuses, visual artists, other people who shaped the world with their lives. All these people still inspire us with their achievements and with the example they set, as they followed their own visions in spite of everything. We admire them and hope that when we grow up and they ask us “who is the person you look up to and would like to be like?”, our answer will be one of the names of these great personalities!

Mission X: Train like an Astronaut

“Mission X: Train like an astronaut” is an international educational challenge supervised by ESERO-UK, and supported by the UK Space Agency and the European Space Agency. It focuses on fitness and nutrition and encourages students to train like an astronaut. Through a wide variety of experiential activities, students get to know the world of space, and are informed of the stages of an astronaut's preparation and his life in space stations, thus developing proper nutrition and fitness standards for their own lives. Young students undertake missions, carry them out and upload their results on the international platform. They score points and complete their “Space Mission” by graduating with honors from “Space School.”

Steps for Life

The Steps for Life program takes place in our kindergarten throughout the school year and it focuses primarily on the development of children's personal and social skills. It is a comprehensive intervention program which was drawn up taking into account various life skills programs of universities and international organizations approved by the World Health Organization. It is based on the belief that school plays a key role in developing skills such as resilience, inventiveness, proper management of difficult situations, and forming healthy interpersonal relationships, which in turn promote the child's overall emotional well-being. In this way, through fun activities that really make sense, children cultivate high expectations and prepare for an exciting, productive and positive adult life.

Through the Eyes of the Artists

The educational program “Through the Eyes of the Artists,” which concerns every thematic approach of the daily curriculum, aims to develop cultured individuals who on the one hand will be able to understand and derive pleasure from different works of art, and on the other hand will be able to express themselves through it. As part of the program, children get to know the lives of great painters and approach their most representative works in a variety of ways. They are inspired by paintings and become visual artists themselves who create original works using diverse materials and techniques. Art offers students aesthetic pleasure, but it also offers joy and emotion through it.

Bookmates

Within the framework of the Bookmates program, students of Day Care Center - Kindergarten have the opportunity to become acquainted with books, authors and illustrators of a publishing house during a school year. Thus, the book becomes a game, joy, knowledge, communication, an act of creation.

All Literature and Discourse Programs

Booktime

Under this program English Garden students read literary books not only to practice their English, but also to enjoy reading and to share the joy with their peers, teachers and parents.

In addition, an interdisciplinary approach to the books with visual tasks, language exercises, games, and dramatizations serves to spur discussions.

Environmental Projects

Visits to environmentally important areas for our younger students of kindergarten and elementary schools, and environmental projects, excursions, and various activities for older students of our Junior High School, cultivate the sensitivity of our children towards nature. The environmental actions of Mandoulides Schools have repeatedly been singled out for the Green Flag award by the Greek Society for the Protection of Nature.

The Schools, since their foundation, have the ancient saying “healthy mind in a healthy body” as a guide in combining sports with excellent education.

Sport is an integral part of school life and supported by highly qualified teachers of physical education and coaches, as well as by outstanding infrastructure.

Our students’ numerous and significant distinctions on a world and national level fully justify this choice.

School Sports

According to grade, age, and class in the course of Physical Education, objectives and priorities are reached through the following actions:

  • Exercises that help them to become familiar with and control their body, and to develop space perception
  • Develop motor skills

Art and Performance
Programs

Music

The early learning music program of the Day Care Center and Kindergarten opens a window to the wonderful world of music.

Objectives of the program are:

  • Cultivation of love for music
  • Smooth and well-rounded development of the child
  • Experiential approach to the world of music through games, drama and visual work
  • Attainment of sufficient knowledge for children who want to continue their musical studies
  • Development of the imagination.

These goals are achieved by:

  • Musical kinetic games, active listening to music, songs, musical tales, audio stories
  • Accredited pre-education music systems (Orff, Dalcrose, etc.)
  • Introduction to audio and musical improvisations, but also musical phrasing and forms
  • Encouragement of expression and imitation of various melodies and rhythms.

Art Gallery

The wondrous world of the arts comprises an endless source of inspiration for the cultivation of children’s aesthetics, as well as for the development of a personal relationship with culture. Pre-Kindergarten and Blossoms students come into contact with paintings of famous artists, such as Wassily Kandinsky, Franz Marc, et al. Students engage in a range of interdisciplinary activities. They observe works of art, talk about shapes, colors, and lines, as well as the reactions these elicit. Inspired by such works of art, students manage to depict these paintings in their own way, using various materials and techniques. This process cultivates students’ ability to perceive the world that surrounds them in a multidimensional manner. Finally, through the program students are taught that art is a realm of freedom, expression and collaboration.

Live Art Gallery

When children are inspired to create art themselves and come into contact with adults’ artwork, they better understand how art is created, what it can express and how it pervades everyday life.

Objectives of the program are:

  • To nurture children’s aesthetic culture
  • To develop children’s personal relationship with culture
  • To decode the language of images and incorporate art in everyday life in order to beautify it
  • To help the new generation understand that art is place of free expression and encounter with others.

Upon completion of the program by the end of the year, a live gallery is created on the Schools’ premises, with the children themselves portraying various works of art (vases, sculptures, mosaics, paintings).

Theatrical Games

This program aims to contribute to children’s sense of expression and ultimately to their balanced development.

This is achieved by:

  • Participation in a variety of experiential activities
  • Improvisation, imitation, creative expression with movement and speech
  • Providing the right stimulus for the integration of students into the magical world of drama
  • Activating the imagination
  • Spurring creativity
  • Cooperation, encouragement of initiative and critical thinking.
