The little “grocers” of 2nd Grade
Second Grade Students successfully completed the pioneering program of “Financial Literacy and Entrepreneurship”.
As part of the program, the children got to know about currency and its subdivisions and became familiar with Euro – transactions.
Firstly, a historical review of the evolution of currencies over time was endeavored. The students gained a wealth of information about the single European currency and became familiar with terms such as European Union and European Economic Union. Then, they skilfully proceeded to trade using their knowledge from the Mathematics lesson.
A wonderful grocery store was set up in a corner of the school, which was decorated by the children together with their teachers with empty food packages. There, our 2nd Graders, as experienced traders, proceeded to the pricing of products and sales. At the same time, they traded with improvised Euro coins, which they made themselves.
The children were pleased with their active participation in all stages of the formation of the grocery store and with the commercial transactions that took place within it.
The joy of the students and the teachers was indescribable! Furthermore, it became quite clear that there is a definite need for such experiential educational actions where children gain valuable knowledge through play!
