Junior High School students from E. Mandoulides Schools achieved top distinctions at the 36th Panhellenic Student Individual Chess Championship 2025.

More specifically, K. Misios won 1st place and the gold medal in his category (7th grade), while M.-K. Skodras won 2nd place and the silver medal in his category (9th grade).

The Panhellenic Individual Chess Championship took place on Sunday, May 4, at Pavilion 6 of TIF. The day before, the Panhellenic Student Team Chess Championship took place at the same venue, organized by the Hellenic Chess Federation and the Chess Clubs’ Union of Thessaloniki-Chalkidiki (ESSTh-Ch). This event is particularly important for the sports community of our city, as it marks the first time in nearly 25 years that the Panhellenic Student Chess Championships have been hosted in Thessaloniki.

Congratulations to our students for their remarkable distinctions in the most prestigious student chess tournament in Greece. We wish them continued success in the future!

5th Place for the Junior High School Team at the Panhellenic Student Team Chess Championship

The Junior High School Chess Team of E. Mandoulides Schools achieved an important distinction by securing the 5th place in the 22nd Panhellenic Student Team Chess Championship 2025. Our Junior High School team ranked 5th among 20 teams from various Junior High Schools across the country. Our team was composed of the following students: K. Misios (7th grade), A. Nikaki (8th grade), E. Sikalidou, M.-K. Skodra, and O. Chasioti (9th grade).

The Panhellenic Team Championship took place on Saturday, May 3, in Thessaloniki, at Pavilion 6 of TIF, with the Panhellenic Individual Championship taking place at the same venue the following day. This marked the first time in nearly 25 years that the Panhellenic Student Chess Championships were hosted in Thessaloniki. It was the top school chess event in the country, featuring not only competitive matches but also numerous parallel activities that combined tradition with technology. A special mention goes to E. Ioannidis (2020), a former Mandoulides student, now a Grand Master of FIDE and a member of the Greek National Men’s Chess Team, who, as part of the side events, played against an ΑΙ machine set to its highest difficulty level, and naturally, won!

Both the Team and Individual Panhellenic Championships were organized by the Hellenic Chess Federation and the Chess Clubs’ Union of Thessaloniki- Chalkidiki (ESSTh-Chhttps://thesschess.gr/).

It is worth noting that the Junior High School team had previously won 1st place at the Regional Team Chess Championship for Thessaloniki – Chalkidiki, which took place on the Cultural Center of E. Mandoulides Schools on March 15, 2025, in collaboration with ESSTh-Ch.

We warmly congratulate our students on their important achievement and wish them continued success in the future!
