Just a few days before Easter, the 2nd-grade students of E. Mandoulides  Schools had a unique experience during their visit to the Open Care Center for the Elderly (K.A.P.I.) of the Municipality of Thessaloniki.

This visit was a meaningful volunteer initiative, combining social contribution with interaction with our elderly fellow citizens. Under the guidance of their teachers, the students welcomed the Easter season together with the elderly visitors of the K.A.P.I., offering them traditional Lenten treats as a small token of respect and appreciation for their lifelong contributions to the community. At the same time, this event provided a valuable opportunity for the children to learn about solidarity and social responsibility, while the elderly had the opportunity to share experiences and emotions with the young students, sing together, and enjoy joyful moments of connection.

Undoubtedly, such initiatives strengthen intergenerational bonds and aim to create a more united and supportive society. Despite their young age, the children, through such activities, can recognize the significance of offering and understanding the value of supporting the more vulnerable members of the community, such as the elderly.
