2nd grade at NOUS

“Oh, This Empathy!”

The 2nd-grade students enjoyed a unique experience at the NOUS Digital Learning and Communication Institute.

As part of the weekly Talking About Usprogram, which aims to familiarize students with human emotions, our young students actively participated in the specially designed program “Oh, This Empathy!”Inspired by the Greater Good Science Center at the University of Berkeley, the teamat NOUS used specially developed materials tailored to the age and cognitive abilities of the students to explore general and abstractconcepts such as self-esteem, self-respect, respect for diversity, and empathy. These concepts were later further shaped with the help of technology.

Using iPads andcomputers, the children watched Andersen’s classic fairy tale The Ugly Duckling. They then worked in groups to create a digital movie, where they shared situations that might make them or others feel bad or uncomfortable, especially those who are different. Through the work of each group, it became clear that the children are eager to embrace diversity and understand that those who set healthy goals for the future are the ones who move forward.

It was a truly unique experience and an innovative lesson for our young heroes!
