On Wednesday, March 11, the Environmental Team of the Junior High School and the students of the Studies Abroad Program of the 10th Grade took part in a coastal cleanup at Karabournaki in Kalamaria. The activity, which also included students from other schools, university students, and independent volunteers, was organized by the environmental organization iSea as part of the celebration of its 10 years of operation and the “Prosfero” Program.
The iSea instructors, after informing the students about the nature and impact of the common types of waste found on beaches, distributed gloves and bags and guided them through the process of collecting different categories of litter. As a result of the cleanup, about 20 large bags of waste were gathered, with a total weight of approximately 90 kilograms, of which around 7 kilograms were recyclable materials.
Through their participation in this activity, the students not only learned from experts about the pollution issues that degrade seas and coastlines, but also became more sensitized to the problem by experiencing the situation firsthand. At the same time, they felt satisfaction from contributing to the environment and the community.
