Dimitris Toulis, a 12th-grade student at Mandoulides Schools, achieved a major national distinction by winning first place in the 1st Panhellenic Artificial Intelligence Competition (PAIC). With his top performance, he secured the first of the four spots on the Greek National AI Team, which will represent Greece at the International Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (IOAI 2025) in Beijing, China (August 2–9, 2025).
The final phase of the competition, named “Pandora,” took place in Athens with the participation of 90 students from across Greece. The top 25% of participants were recognized for their high scores, while four students were selected to form Greece’s first National AI Team.
Dimitris Toulis scored 239 points, the highest score in the final phase, significantly surpassing the other distinguished competitors. Notably, in the preliminary round he had already stood out, achieving 331.21 points in a system with a maximum of 330, as he developed a solution more efficient than the committee’s proposed solution, earning a score exceeding the theoretical maximum.
Dimitris has also received important distinctions in other competitions, including:
-
Bronze medal at the 6th Balkan Physics Olympiad, Montenegro, June 20–24, 2024
-
Bronze medal at the European Olympiad of Experimental Science (EOES) as part of the Greek three-member team, Luxembourg, April 7–14, 2024
-
Qualification and participation in the national informatics team preparation camps, Athens (March 13–16, 2024, and May 5–9, 2025), after three rounds of the 37th Panhellenic Informatics Competition
-
Gold medal at the 4th HellenicYNT (Physics + Chemistry + Biology Competition) with the school team, April 7–9, 2023
-
3rd place in the second round of the Panhellenic Student Chemistry Competition (2nd place in the first round)
-
3rd place in the Panhellenic Physics Competition (EEF) with a score of 97/100
It is worth noting that among the participants, Promitheas–Panagiotis Nikou, also a 12th-grade student at Mandoulides Schools, achieved a very high score in the preliminary phase (314.16/330) and qualified for the final, where he was selected as an alternate member of the National AI Team.
These significant achievements by the two students highlight the high level of education in Technology and Informatics at Mandoulides Schools.
The Panhellenic Artificial Intelligence Competition is a pioneering initiative in secondary education, giving students the opportunity to develop skills in cutting-edge fields such as machine learning, computer vision, and natural language processing.
