A Warm Hug for Everyone!

On the occasion of International Volunteer Day, the second-grade students made a particularly warm and heartfelt visit to the Senior Citizens’ Centers of Eastern Thessaloniki, offering a healthy breakfast to our elderly fellow citizens. This initiative was a small but meaningful act of love that filled both the children and the grandparents who welcomed them with joy.

The children collected a variety of healthy treats, which they offered with kindness. Fruits, pies, homemade goodies, juices, tea, and small snacks became the ingredients for a beautiful, cozy morning table that created a sense of companionship. The presence of the students brought liveliness to the space, while the elderly responded with stories, wishes, and words of love, forming a bridge of communication between generations. In the end, everyone joined together like one big hug and sang Christmas carols, creating a warm atmosphere.

This visit offered special moments to the elderly, who felt that society does not forget them but cares for them and honors them. The children, with their purity and spontaneity, sweetened their day and conveyed the message that love and respect have no age.

For the young students, this activity was a valuable life lesson. They learned that volunteering is not only the offering of material goods but, above all, an offering from the heart. With simple actions, we can brighten someone’s day and show that we are all members of one big community.
