As part of the SHORE program, a coastal cleanup took place on Tuesday, May 20, at a beach in Pylaia, organized by the Junior High School Environmental Team of the E. Mandoulides Schools in collaboration with the environmental organization iSea. The event was also supported by the association for people with disabilities “Sotir”. In total, 18 students from the Environmental Team and 20 members from the “Sotir” association participated.
The students were informed about marine litter and its environmental, social, and economic impacts. The modern way of life, characterized by uncontrolled consumption and long-term improper waste management, has made marine litter one of the major environmental issues worldwide. Addressing this issue has thus become urgent.
During the coastal cleanup, a total of 200 kilos of litter were collected, 10 kilos of which were recyclable. At the end of the activity, informational material was distributed to the participating students by iSea.
