The “ERMIS” team of E. Mandoulides Schools has qualified for the final phase of the Panhellenic CANSAT 2025 Space Competition.
Specifically, the Junior and Senior High School students E. Giouvanopoulos, E. Mavridis, O. Milonas, Ch. Toumanidis and K. Chatzigeorgiou designed, built, and will launch a satellite the size of a soda can, which will collect atmospheric data.
Our satellite is based on industry standards, both in terms of construction and programming. The “ERMIS” team of the Schools has developed a structured scientific study for air quality analysis. This requires additional sensors and high technical specifications.
The final phase of the competition will take place from April 24 to April 26, 2025, in Athens, and the winning team will represent Greece in the final phase of the Pan-European Space Competition.
The competition is organized by ESA (European Space Agency) and ESERO. The Greek ESERO Office is based at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) and is a collaborative initiative between the European Space Agency-ESA and national partners such as the Laboratory Centers for Natural Sciences, the Center for Digital Geographic Education, the Hellenic STEM Education Association, the ATLAS Research Group of AUTH, etc.
In the competition, students are tasked with building a satellite the size of a can, which will be launched to an altitude of 1,000 meters, where it must collect scientific data and transmit it to a ground station.
The winning team will have the opportunity to attend seminars by space industry experts and present their project as part of the CanSat “Space Engineer for one day” award at ESTEC (European Space Research and Technology Centre) in ESA in the Netherlands, on June 17 – June 18, 2025.
