On Thursday, November 14, as part of World Diabetes Day, a series of activities were organized at E. Mandoulides Schools.
More specifically:
- A video was shown in all Junior and Senior High School classes, explaining diabetes, its causes, and its consequences. In the video, Mr. Dimitrs Mandoulides shared an inspirational message, reflecting on his personal experience and journey in managing the disease.
- A special event was organized for 7th-grade students, featuring a healthy picnic in the Senior High School’s outdoor area. Students presented meals they had prepared or sourced under the guidance of dietician-nutritionist Mrs. V. Karagiannidou and enjoyed them together in a group picnic. During the picnic, Mrs Karagiannidou led a discussion with the students.
- The school canteen prepared a lunch box featuring foods with a low glycemic index and healthier options, emphasizing balanced nutrition.
- Teachers facilitated discussions in classrooms, focusing on the importance of healthy eating and regular physical activity.
Objectives of these activities:
- Educate students about Diabetes Mellitus.
- Help students to understand the impact of food and lifestyle choices on overall health, mental well-being, and athletic performance.
- Encourage discussions on mindful eating habits.
- Provide education in a fun and engaging way through hands-on activities.
