3rd Prize and Honorary Distinction in the 6th Panhellenic Student Competition for 3D Design

The new school year has begun dynamically, with yet another success – this time a double one – bringing joy and smiles to the faces of our students.

Two teams from the 6th grade won the 3rd prize and an honorary distinction respectively, in the 6th Panhellenic Student Competition for 3D Design, organized by the Laboratory of Didactics of Physics and Educational Technology (DiPhET) at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (A.U.TH.)

The competition took place from March to May 2024 with participation from teams across Greece.

The theme of the competition was “Our School,” in which students were required to study the school complex, identify a problem related to sustainable development, and design a construction to help solve it.

The “3D Designers” team, consisting of Maria Eleni Garagkou, Sophia Katranara, Selina Papamihail, and Georgia Chatzikosta, 5th grade students, designed an emergency alarm siren with a bright light for emergencies to assist students with hearing impairments. They also created a sliding door for easy access for people with disabilities, spacious desks with hooks for bags, and a quiet corner in the classroom.

The team “E3- D Boys” team, consisting of Alexandros Katsimpris and Georgios Papastergiou, 5th grade students received an honorary distinction for designing a model outdoor sustainable development workshop. This workshop includes a botanical garden for studying local biodiversity through the rational cultivation of plants and organic vegetables, a rainwater collector, a recycling and reuse corner, and a composter for creating organic fertilizers.

These results bring us great joy and fill us with optimism for future success. We are now convinced that the future looks bright, as the children envision and design a better world for everyone!
