Participation of 6thGrade Students in the 4th Panhellenic Conference on 3D Design and Printing

On November 30 and December 1, 2024, the 4th Panhellenic Conference on 3D Design and Printing (ST3dM 3) was held at the Municipal Center of Pefki, with the participation of young and older students, college students, researchers and teachers from various parts of Greece.

On Saturday, November 30, 2024, the teams of our Schools, consisting of 6thgrade students, presented the works with which they won the competition in front of an audience from all over Greece. The team “3D Designers” consisting of Maria Eleni Garagou, Sofia Katranara, Selina Papamichail, and Georgia Chatzikosta presented an alarm siren with bright light in case of emergency, which helps students with hearing impairments, a sliding door for easy access for people with disabilities, and desks spacious at the feet with hooks for their schoolbag as well as a quiet corner in the classroom.

The “E3-D Boys” team, consisting of Alexandros Katsimpris and Georgios Papastergiou, presented a model outdoor sustainable development laboratory that includes a botanical garden for the study of local biodiversity through the rational cultivation of plants and organic vegetables, a rainwater collector, a corner for recycling and reuse of objects as well as a composter for the creation of organic fertilizers.

This experience is particularly important for our students, as they develop soft skills such as communication and public discourse. This also has great benefits for their subsequent academic and professional course and it strengthens their self-confidence.

The conference was organized by the Department of Physics of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in collaboration with the Regional Directorate of Primary and Secondary Education of Central Macedonia and was implemented with the support of the Municipality of Neapolis-Sykeon. It was the culmination of the 6th Panhellenic Student 3D Design and Printing Competition ST3dM that took place during the school year 2023-2024 and was held under the auspices of the Ministry of Education, Research and Religious Affairs.

It is certain that with these actions children are gradually becoming active citizens and we warmly congratulate them for their successes and their vision for a better and sustainable future.
