As part of World Diabetes Day (November 14), first-year junior high school students participated in an educational program aimed at better understanding Type 1 & Type 2 Diabetes and its important connection with lifestyle and balanced nutrition.

Part 1 – Discussion and Education

During their Home Economics class, the students, together with their teacher, discussed:

  • Basic information about the types of diabetes and prevention through healthy choices
  • The importance of proper and balanced nutrition

Part 2 – Experiential Activity: Healthy Snack Picnic

The students prepared a healthy snack at home and brought it to school. During a small picnic in the schoolyard, they:

  • Presented the snack they had prepared
  • Talked about its ingredients and nutritional value
  • Finally, they enjoyed it all together

Games and Group Activities

The students were divided into teams and took part in three interactive games:

  • Creating a balanced plate using food images
  • Categorizing foods into proteins, carbohydrates, and dietary fiber
  • A knowledge quiz with questions and answers about diabetes and nutrition

Through discussion, games, and hands-on experience, the students learned that balanced nutrition and a healthy lifestyle not only keep us strong and full of energy but also serve as a key ally in the prevention of Diabetes.
