Visit to the Center for Interdisciplinary Research and Innovation of AUTH

As part of their upcoming visit to the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) in Geneva, Switzerland, 24 students of 10th and 11th Grade visited the Center for Interdisciplinary Research and Innovation of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

Dr. Dimitrios Sampsonidis, Assistant Professor in the Department of Nuclear Physics and Particle Physics of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and member of the Particle Physics Group of the ATLAS Experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), informed the students of the Schools about the experiments conducted at CERN and their contribution to fundamental physics research on the structure of matter and the process of creating the universe.

The students were then guided around the construction site of the particle detectors that will be used to upgrade the Atlas detector to CERN.
