Lazarakia

As part of the program “Eating Healthily” and on the occasion of the religious holiday of Easter, students of the Kindergarten came into contact with the habits and customs of our country, by making “Lazarakia.” “Lazarakia” are little dough figures, representing Lazarus. The children learnt the materials from which Lazarakia are made, namely olive oil, which is the basic ingredient of the Mediterranean diet, cinnamon, which is aromatic and very healthy, whole wheat flour, which helps our digestive system, and finally sugar, which we love, but is not so good for us. So, along with the children, we decided to replace sugar with honey, which is both sweet and beneficial. Then our young students kneaded them, formed their shapes and finally tasted them, while singing carols of Lazarus.
