For the third year in a row, the Ministry of Education institution, Thematic Week of Awareness and Sensitization, took place at Mandoulides schools

For the third year in a row, the Ministry of Education institution, Thematic Week of Awareness and Sensitization, took place at Mandoulides from 20 to 23, May. It is an event that aims to inform and raise awareness to members of the school community on issues related to education in various sensitive areas. This year's title was Democracy and Human Rights. During the current school year, it focused on three main topics:

  1. Nutrition and Quality of Life.
  1. Prevention of Addiction and Dependence.
  1. Gender Identities.

The implementation of the Thematic Week at our Schools was carried out through speeches, students’ activities and screenings of films and speeches.

More specifically, speakers Damianos Douitsis (Rehabilitation Counselor and President of OASIS Support Center for Former Addicts) and Georgios Gousias (Baker) informed the students and discussed with them.

Students covered the topics with a variety of actions. Regarding nutrition, the students of 7th Grade presented their project “Bread - the Basis of the Mediterranean Diet / from Production to Consumption” and those of the Environmental Group presented their own about honey and beekeeping products (“The Bee, Man’s Nutritional Colleague”).

As part of prevention of addiction and dependence, the Volunteer and Environmental Groups visited the OASIS Support Center and talked with Mr. Douitsis and a group of psychologists and former addicts. The following day, Mr. Douitsis and his associates were hosted at the Theater of the Schools, now having all the Junior High School as their audience and interlocutors. It is worth mentioning that OASIS has launched the “Just Say No!” campaign, in collaboration with Mandoulides Schools, a campaign that will grow even bigger during the next school year.

Finally, as part of the Gender Identities, the Volunteer Group presented its theatrical performance “The Wonderful Hat” and at the same time, two screenings took place: the film “American History X”, which conveyed powerful anti-racist, family and friendship messages, as well as the speech by Father Andreas Konanos “The Meaning of Love”.
