Carnival Around the World

Our Kindergarten students attended the educational program "Carnival Around the World" at the "Lyrical Small Planet" Cultural Centre.

Inspired by paintings, especially Peter Bruegel's painting "The Fight Between Carnival and Lent", they started their journey learning about how carnival is celebrated in different countries of the world. The first destination was of course Greece, where they learned about the customs and traditions of different regions, as well as about the "Carnival King". Then, after moving on to many other countries, they made a stop in Venice, where they played with elegant Venetian masks, dancing tarantella, and in Brazil, dancing to the rhythm of the Brazilian samba. Their adventurous journey ended in Sohos. They got to know "Koudounoforoi” (people wearing head masks and bells) which is an ancient custom, and danced to the rhythm of the accompanying music, and had fun making and wearing their own special hats!
