Evgenios Ioannidis is the European Chess Champion

Mandoulides Schools student of 11th Grade and athlete of AMO Galaxias Thessalonikis E. Ioannidis scored a new big success for Greek chess in the European Youth Chess Championship 2018, which was held in Riga, Latvia from 20 to 29 August.

Evgenios ranked 1st in the category of up to 18 years old with 7.5 points in 9 games, achieving international standards and at the same time winning the title of International Master! It is worth noting that 75 teenagers from 37 countries participated in the youth categories of up to 18 years of age. Our talented chess player also came 1st in the European Championship in 2011 in the age group of up to 10 years old.

The European Youth Champion in the category of up to 18 years old for 2018 E. Ioannidis met with Undersecretary of Sports Mr. George Vasiliadis and General Secretary of Sports Mr. Ioulios Synadinos as part of the opening of the trade stand of the General Secretariat of Sports at the TIF.

Mr. Vasiliades welcomed Evgenios and other distinguished athletes and thanked them for their great distinctions. Mr. Synadinos had a private meeting with Evgenios, his parents and the member of the Board of Directors of ESO Mr. Ch. Pilalis, during which he promised that the GSS will support the young champion.

Evgenios also had a brief conversation with Minister of Education Mr. Kostas Gavroglou and Undersecretary Mrs. Meropi Tzoufi.
