Participation of students of the Schools in the 1st Summer School of PANEKFE

Students of 10th Grade Ch. Alvanos, D. Vasileiadis and E. Kimpouropoulou attended the 1st Student Summer School of PANEKFE (Panhellenic Association of Natural Sciences Laboratory Coordinators) from 27 to 29 June, 2018. The summer school took place in Athens and groups of students from Northern and Southern Greece who excelled in the Experimental Science Contest for Senior High School Students EUSO took part.

The students had the opportunity to visit places such as the Hellenic Research Center for Natural Sciences “Democritus” and the facilities of the “Hellenic Petroleum” refinery in Aspropyrgos. There, apart from the tour, they also talked with specialists and learned about the nature of basic research and the satisfaction one can get out of it as well as about the studies that workplaces like these require and the professional opportunities they offer.

In addition, our students attended lectures of leading Greek scientists on Physics (Mr. S. Trahanas, Director of Mathesis Center of Internet Classes), Chemistry (Mr. A. Kalokerinos, Professor of Analytical Chemistry, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens) and Biology (Ms. O. Tsitsiloni, Associate Professor of Immunology, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens) and were able to ask questions and discuss with them. Finally, they completed their “study” at the Summer School by participating in the design and implementation of experiments in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Geology, which help better understand the laws of nature, with the help and guidance of the teachers at the Natural Sciences Laboratory Center of of Egaleo.
