School alumni’s visit to our 9th Grade students

School alumni Alkistis Giogiou visited our Schools on Friday, 28th April, and talked with the 9th Grade students about their relationship with politics, social problems, stereotypes, prejudice, and all these things that “seem” to divide us – when they really unite us.

Her visit was prompted by the European project “Living Library” otherwise called “European Living Library”, which was created by Ms. Giogiou’s organization “MoveIt”, in cooperation with CONNECT International Network, and with co-financing from the European Union’s “Europe for Citizens” program.

The objective of “Living Library” is to break stereotypes and fight prejudice. Thus, people of different nationalities, genders, ages, religious and social groups become “books” for a while and share their stories with anyone in the audience who wishes to “read” them.

The students watched a clip from the documentary that was created as part of the “Living Library” program, in which some of the “books” described their experiences and expressed their opinions. This way, the students came into contact with different cultural and social backgrounds, developing respect for diversity and discussing their own concerns.
