Workshop on clothing recycling at the Schools

On Wednesday, 6 th March a workshop on the recycling of clothing and textiles in general was held at the Theatre of the Cultural Centre of the Schools, in collaboration with TexCycle. TexCycle is a company that collects used fabrics of all kinds, with which the Schools have been working since last May, as part of the Clothing and Footwear Recycling Program in schools. For this purpose, two special clothing recycling bins have been installed by the company, one in the Elementary School and one in the Junior-Senior High School. This gesture is aimed at strengthening the Circular Economy and protecting the environment. The speaker of the Workshop was Ms. E. Farmaki, Sales and Communication Manager of the company and the audience she addressed was the junior high school students of the Schools. Ms. Farmaki explained in detail the high environmental cost of the reckless consumerism that characterizes the purchase of clothing, while she emphasized the benefits of recycling fabrics and buying reusable clothing. Finally, the presentation of an application that calculates the gains in environmental resources resulting from recycling textiles based on their weight or discrete items (clothing or footwear) was of great interest. The Workshop concluded with questions from students in the audience, who showed particular interest and sensitivity to the issue.
