25 years later, the World Champions in the World School Basketball Championship (Israel, 1999) returned to their court and school, in an honorary event attended by hundreds of students, athletes, the Basketball Academy classes, the racing groups of the Schools as well as representatives of the state, such as Mr. Giannis Papageorgiou, Coordinator of the Prime Minister’s Office in Thessaloniki, Mr. Nikos Tzollas, Vice Governor of Digital Governance in the Region of Central Macedonia, and representatives of education, such as Mr. Alexis Koptsis, Regional Director of Education, and representatives of sports, such as Mr. Vaggelis Liolios, President of the Greek Basketball Federation, and others.
The event was held as a minimum tribute to the Founder of the Schools Evangelos Mandoulides, who gave the chance to many athletes to find their way to the top, who made his dream a dream for many children, and who lit the way of many students through his example.
25 years later, the world champion team, the one which filled the school and Greece with pride and optimism returned to the Schools on a day of remembrance, in a celebration of sport and education that aimed to teach the younger ones and remind everyone that it is worth living for a dream.
This celebration was very emotional, as all the honorees spoke with respect and love for the founder of the Schools Evangelos Mandoulides, who constantly supported and encouraged the school basketball team, which was destined to become a world champion, and they spoke of his passion for basketball but always combined with the students’ education.
At the event, the athletes, and coaches of the 1999 team were honored by Aikaterini Mantoulidou, President of the Schools.
In the 1999 Champion Team, some personalities later distinguished themselves in the Euroleague and other international and national competitions.
Specifically, the following athletes were present:
Th. Aglamisis, M. Demertzis, Ν. Zisis, Κ. Kyriazopoulos, Ch. Markopoulos, Α. Papadopoulos, Κ. Papadopoulos, G. Papaioannou, Ν. Sidiropoulos, G. Sourmelidis.
The coaches of the team were honored as well:
Α. Zournatsidis, Ν. Kerameus, S. Markopoulos, Ε. Chasiotis.
The event also had a social character, as essentials were collected for the “Smile of the Child”.
This sports celebration ended with a basketball match between the team that won the Champion title in the 1999 World School Championship in Israel and the current school team of Mandoulides Schools and ended in a draw.
